What’s Your Name, What’s Your Sign – Zodiac Compatibility Basics
The most basic interest in astrology is to find out how compatible we are with another person. I know when I meet a someone I tend to try to figure out their sign or at least element mode to determine how well I will get along with the person. I do a pretty good job at guessing, it’s my favorite party trick! There is obviously more to being connected to someone than the day they were born; however, knowing this gives you basic clues to their personality, motives, and mode of operating. Zodiac compatibility also helps to explain why for no logical reason you have instant and strong connections with someone you never met in your life. As with all things, similar things tend to group together and opposites attract. Here are some basics of attraction and compatibility based on the zodiac.
You will have easy relationships with signs that share your same element because you are like-minded and have similar motivations.
Earth – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Water – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Air – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Fire – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
You will also have good chances with complimentary elements. An easy way to remember this is to think of the mode of operating for the element. Earth and Water signs are contained signs. Literally, the earth and bodies of water are containers used to grow and nurture. Fire and Air signs are expressive and full of momentum. Literally, fire and air are hard to control and are ever-changing. These grouping, Earth/Water and Fire/Air will have easy connections. The flip side of this would be if an element isn’t allowed to thrive and act in its true nature, the relationship won’t work as well. Take for example Fire and Water. Water literally puts fire out so connections between these two elements aren’t always easy or very deep. However, that doesn’t mean fire and water are never friends. I find Sagittarius (fire) and Cancer (water) are often friends. Similarly, you may assume Libra and Pisces would be a great match, they are air and water respectively. Well that’s not the case. While these signs do connect it maybe hard for them to form deep bonds because they are both airy and all over the place, there isn’t enough grounding for them to really build upon. The more you understand about the characteristics of zodiac signs, the easier it becomes to understand why you get along or don’t get along with other signs. For now, here are basics for complementary elements:
Water is a good match with Air and Earth. Air gently pushes water to move forward or change direction and at times when they come together they become a strong force of nature. Water and Earth produce a nutrient rich by-product (mud).
Air is a good match with Fire and Water. Air nurtures fire and helps it to thrive. Air and Water signs are both open-minded and expansive.
Earth is a good match with Water and Fire. Earth and Water create an environment for nurturing and growth. Earth and Fire are both strong forces; Earth can appreciate Fire’s energy and momentum.
Fire is a good match with Air and Earth. Air breathes life into Fire and motivates it to grow and expand. Earth is grounded and practical which compliments Fire’s need for knowledge and expansion.
Rule of thumb, there is always a connection with your polar opposite. Your polar opposite is the sign 6 months apart from yours. Polar opposites are two sides of the same coin – they have many of the same attributes, they are just polarized differently. However, the relationship can be hit or miss. Often times if you have a Love/Hate relationship with a particular sign it maybe your polar opposite. Men and women have different vibrations so you may connect differently with the men and women of your polar opposite sign. My polar opposite is Scorpio, I get along just fine with female Scorps but the men…. they tend to be attracted to me like bees to honey while I’m working overtime to keep the “boy bye!” look off of my face. Friends yes, lovers doubtful.
