The Autumn Equinox arrives September 22, 2017 officially opening the season of Autumn as well as Libra season. Whenever there is a seasonal shift we innately feel it within and without. To better understand the seasonal changes and how they impact us internally let’s review what Fall (or Autumn) is about. This has nothing to do with pumpkin spice by the way.
The reason that we call the 3 months from late September to late December the Fall is because astrologically, when the sun enters Libra it is said to be in a state of fall (or falling). Fall is a term that describes when a planet (or star in this case) is weakened when it enters a zodiac sign. The planet isn’t able to fully express its true nature and carry out its duties to the best of its ability. Essentially, Libra is like a bit of kryptonite to the sun; it doesn’t make it totally powerless but it definitely suffers. We experience can feel sun’s weakness – it’s not as warm, it’s not as bright, growth slows down, things begin to die away, and our energy drops. This is where the balance and harmony of Libra comes in. Contrary to popular belief, Libra is not just about relationships. Libra is ruled by Venus and it definitely takes on the planet’s qualities of attraction, love, and partnerships but it really reflects Venus propensity towards the laws and order nature and the universe. The natural order of the universe is different from the law and order of our judicial systems.
As the sun goes into its fall and the season of autumn sets in, we are being asked to find new ways to harmonize and balance our life. The best way to do that is to get into harmony with natural order.
Virgo season helped us analyze and take account of the things that we had brought to fruition thus far. Representing the early harvest; late summer is when everything we had been giving energy to since the Spring Equinox grew beyond a blossom and into maturity. Virgo influenced us to inspect those things (personal goals, a project, personal growth, career, relationship ect.) to analyze not only how successful they are but also the process we took to get them there, taking note of successes, weakness, and blocks to create a plan for improvement. The energy of Virgo season spurred us to make practical changes that support the cooler, stagnet days of fall… declutter spaces, detoxing, improving processes, eating healthy, and letting go of relationships and activities that drain energy and time were top priority in late summer.
Virgo season helped us get our mind and priorities right in preparation for onset of fall.
Now that Autumn has arrived, here are some simple things you can do to keep your energy and your spirits up.
The changes in climate impact us physically and emotionally in a very real way. Nothing is wrong, everything is part of a bigger cycle. The warmer months, especially July and August, are when the sun’s energy is strong and we tend to be happier and spend more time outdoors absorbing the sun’s rays. As the sun begins to fall we experience may withdrawal symptoms such as a lack of energy, seasonal depression, and even anxiety about what the future will hold. Adding to this, there is currently a lot of natural disasters taking place all over the world (hurricanes, mudslides, tropical storms) which brings up feelings of grief and sadness within ourselves. Direct energy towards being of service instead of being fearful or sad. Accept that these events stem from nature and that there is nothing that we can do to control them (natural order). However, there are many opportunities to be of service to those impacted such as donating clothes, money, and time. These events also serve as a reminder to review your own preparedness plan in case of an emergency as well help family and the elderly create an action plan.
Create balance within and without. In line with the natural rhythms of the earth, the end of the summer also means less fruits and summer blooming vegetables. In exchange, our bodies naturally begin to crave denser foods that make us full as well as those that warm us up. By no coincidence these types of foods, squash, beets, and grains thrive in the autumn months. Do some research on Ayurveda diets for fall eating. Next, find a good diet to nurture your mind and spirit. Making a commitment to even a short amount of time to a basic home workout will keep your body strong and working properly in the colder months we are less active. A commitment to a regular prayer, meditation, or yoga practice will keep depression down and spirits up.
Autumn offers opportunity for deep, personal growth. astrological the 3 months of fall encompass Libra (balance and justice), Scorpio (deeper connection and transformation), and Sagittarius (freedom and attaining goals); life will naturally follow this flow so ride the energetic wave. It begins by creating balance with yourself and the things/people around you. Next, things will become more serious and you will have to focus on self-mastery to experience growth. What isn’t working may need to transformed or buried all together, be brave. Lastly, any loss or growth encountered will feel empowering and provide you with trust and optimism to move closer towards what will bring happiness.
